Okay, so you've decided to give rush a shot. Maybe you've already decided you want to go Greek- maybe you're not so sure. We really don't care. Forget everything you know about - or think you know - about being in a fraternity. Being a "Pike" is not about having a few buddies to drink with on the weekends. It's not just about having a few Greek letters to brandish on your chest. Letters aren't what Pi Kappa Alpha is made of. We don't rely on our brotherhood - WE MAKE IT! We're not looking for the guy who "needs" a fraternity. To pledge Pi Kappa Alpha is to subscribe to a higher ideal of achievement and friendship. Ours is a collection of scholars, leaders, athletes, and above all, gentlemen. But actions speak louder than words, and we welcome the opportunity to tell you about some of the outstanding men who call themselves brethren.

What is Pike all about?

Pi Kappa Alpha will push you to your limits. After all, a complete man is not average or mediocre; he is one who excels in every facet of life. He is a scholar who recognizes the necessity of academic excellence to achieve success. He is a leader, committed to helping others and guiding the way to a better community. He is an athlete, who understands that physical activity helps develop a man's potential. Most of all, he is a gentleman, who has care and concern for others and conducts himself in a proper manner.

Friendship
Athletics, academics and social events mean little if you don't like the people you live with. Pi Kappa Alpha is a tight-knit unit. The friendships our members make last a lifetime. Our members are always ready to lend each other a helping hand, and this bond is also extended to our pledges. Pikes do not give bids to prospective members without intending to initiate them. Hazing can play no part in a friendship.
This friendship is not shared just among active members; our alumni are also actively involved with the fraternity. Alumni can provide career guidance, job references and placement assistance.

Pikes are everywhere...
Pikes are more than just a single, isolated chapter. The Indiana University Southest chapter is just one of 200 Pi Kappa Alpha chapters across the United States and Canada. Pi Kappa Alpha is one of the largest and strongest national fraternities.
Can you imagine having brothers at all of the nation's best colleges and universities? Pikes are everywhere.

The benefits of such a strong base of support are many and varied. The national fraternity provides scholarships and low-interest loans to help you financially. There are also regional and national conventions where you can meet Pikes from across North America.

Wherever you go, whatever you do, Pikes will be there to help you. It's a network of brothers that you can always count on.

The Ideals of Pi Kappa Alpha

The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity is a Greek letter, secret, college, social fraternity. It is comprised of men who share similar ideals of friendship, truth, honor, and loyalty. The Fraternity's ideals are expressed in S.L.A.G. We are scholars, leaders, athletes, and gentlemen. These four attributes are common to all brothers of Pi Kappa Alpha.

Scholarship
Your number one time commitment and priority for the next four years will be academics. Today, there is a need to differentiate yourself from every other college student. Academic excellence is the key to success in the future and can put you head and shoulders above your competition. From day one, Pi Kappa Alpha provides the resources and support that will make your time in college as successful as it can be.

Leaders

Leadership is the key to Pi Kappa Alpha's success. Fraternity men can be found in leadership positions from the Presidency and Congress to executive board rooms across North America. On campus, opportunities for leadership involvement are unlimited, and each brother is encouraged to participate.

Athletes

Every university provides an opportunity for intramural participation. Pikes not only participate, they win. Participating in intramurals is a great release and can be the source of great memories; there's no question that winning championships makes those memories even better. We are so dedicated to competition that we appoint a chairman to handle the intramural scheduling throughout the year. Several teams will be fielded in each sport so every PiKA will have the opportunity to compete.
Whether you are a player, or working on the sidelines, the athletic program builds teamwork skills fundamental to success in life. This teamwork and the winning spirit add to the overall brotherhood of Pi Kappa Alpha.

Gentlemen
Only one man in the world can turn his back on good manners. He is the man who will never need another's influence, never need a customer, a client, never be lonely, never need understanding, never fall in love, never want to share a precious moment or experience with another, never want a son of his own or a home.

The conduct of fraternity men marks, in great measure, the weakness or strength of the college fraternity system. An unfavorable opinion by outsiders if often formed as a result of thoughtless action both inside and outside the group. If you are to impress the true fraternal ideals upon those who observe you, you must take stoke of yourself; you must live up to the ideals which are sometimes considered lightly by some thoughtless members not mindful of the trust reposed in them.

Proper conduct is part of the foundation of all success in fraternity and chapter organization. In its absence, the benefits of a fraternity are only partly realized. Harmony is lost and factional division (the archenemy of fraternalism) can gain a foothold. Therefore, it is your duty, as an individual college man, to care for your reputation and the reputation of Pi Kappa Alpha.

Other Benefits of Pi Kappa Alpha

Networking
Pi Kappa Alpha has achieved its success by attracting the highest quality individuals. The men who represent PiKA have made the decision to make the most of their college careers. From the youngest person ever to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor to countless CEOs and United States Congressmen, Pi Kappa Alpha members have set themselves apart. With alumni support like this behind any brother, future brothers are sure to succeed in all that they do.

Brotherhood
The most recognized word associated with fraternities is brotherhood. Brotherhood is the feeling you get when you win the intramural championship, when your fraternity brother is elected student body president, when alumni come back for homecoming and they share old stories with undergraduates, and when you hold the best social functions. It's the feeling you get when you know you are surrounded by men who represent the best the university has to offer. Brotherhood makes undergraduate years fun, and produces friendships and memories that last a lifetime.

Recognition
The challenge is to hold yourself to a higher standard, to stand out and make the most of the opportunities the college experience presents. Competition, pride and superior organization drive the members of Pi Kappa Alpha to hold themselves to a higher standard - often, the results are historic. College is what you make of it; the competitive edge drives Pi Kappa Alpha to lead the fraternity world, and individuals to accomplish great things.
